Why do we like it?

Practicing on active locks can be tricky when you're just getting started, both because you can't see what's going on inside and because you can damage the lock and picks if you're too rough with them. This practice lock allows you to better see just what's happening inside. They're also pinned fairly simply so they're usually pretty easy to pick once you get to know what you're doing. Sometimes, when you're dealing with a tough lock it's nice to have an easy to pick one nearby.
